SABC 2
Things are becoming even more exciting! mist tree will be on SABC2 on Thursday (29 November at 10h30), in December and again in January on Music O .There's a story here. I got a call from Blue Wizard Productions, who are into their third season of promoting and explaining music as a career to young South Africans through Music O , hosted by Muso. Since this is the first time I've received a call like this, naturally I wanted to know who it was that recommended mist tree to be the artist featured in the show. The Production Co-ordinator, Thandi, told me his name - and I don't know him. This is BIG. When someone you don't know recommends you as an artist to watch, it's a milestone in this business. And when Mocharts heard about the news, they decided to sms all their subscribers on Wednesday to let them know about the show. This works out brilliantly since from last week, they were planning to send 'well' to all their subscribers on Friday anyway. If you already are a Mocharts subscriber, enjoy the gift! So hopefully the recognition will keep growing from here, especially with the second album nearing completion and coming out next year (it's risky to put a date on when - mid year perhaps). As always, when I know more, you'll know more!

Mocharts Mania
Distribution takes on a new meaning for independent artists with Mocharts. Finally, South African artists can distribute their songs nationwide, vaulting the usual barriers to entry. You can download full length mist tree songs from "that album" and you can even become a Mocharts subscriber, which will entitle you to free songs from great new SA artists every week! And if that isn't enough to have you reaching for your phone, on the Downloads page are 11 free ringtones - including one for the song "By the Sea", which is a hidden track on "that album", coming in a minute after "Spider" (which is my favourite ringtone track at the moment). All in all, this is a good year for independent artist distribution. How I love new technology...

Ladies' Evening Feedback
Ladies' Evening needed an interval. But aside from that, it was wonderful. The songs were beautiful, the sound was perfect and the talent nothing short of breathtaking. There was a professional ballerina whose elegance and beauty left everyone, young and old, wishing they could look like that. The skits were hilarous, the inspirational talk shocking and empowering, the original poetry (written and recited by ten-year old Shannon) excellent for any age. The 'quiet' art - the hand worked décupage, visual art, embroidery and (magnificent) jewellery - led to a clamour for classes and a flurry of sales. It was beautifully hosted, with a spread of goodies that the queen herself would appreciate. This may seem over effusive so I guess you just had to be there to see it for yourself! We'll let you know when the next Soiree is on...

Ushering in 2007
Welcome 2007! It's already halfway to February in the new year and, from e-mails I've been sent, I know that many of you are delighted to have a fresh new year in which to achieve your goals and dreams. Looking back, 2006 was a tumultuous year! What with the music video launch, MOSHITO, the Differently Abled charity telethon, interviews and articles, things on this side were hectic. Hopefully, though, 2007 will enable us to be totally focussed on the second album, which we wanted in March but now hope for in June. Having said that, look out for the music video on SABC 1. You can listen out for mist tree's music on Podcast City, South Africa's first South African Music podcast station (that is, radio streamed over the internet). Remember, if you are a South African artist (of any media) and you are looking for exposure, submit your details via the All Arts page and we will happily support you, free of charge. Have a great 2007!

'Well' Video is here!
It's here! It's here! Thanks especially to the help of Helmke Friedland of Flashweb, you are now able to watch the music video 'well', regardless of whether you have dial-up or broadband. You can download it for free or buy it on DVD but the most important thing is that, as long promised, 'well' is finally available for you to view. If you want to view it on MK89, sms them on 33692 with the words ' mist tree, well'. R1.50 per sms. Quite a few people have contacted us when they saw 'well' on SABC. Thank you so much for your support...we love getting your e-mails and sms'. Speaking of which, we've received quite a few comments from around Africa, where both 'well' and 'rambling' seem to have touched a chord (pun intended of course.) Things are really starting to heat up now, especially with all the contacts mist tree made at MOSHITO. For example, mist tree met Josi Madau, producer and presenter of SABC Africa and it looks like an interview is happening soon...We'll keep you updated as soon as details are finalised. Other new happenings include the release of Kathy Raven's fabulous new release Love Seed, the opening of Susan Woolf's long awaited web gallery and a poem from Nicholas van den Berg on the All Art page. Check them out and enjoy the video!

Moshito 2006
MOSHITO took place again this year and despite some disorganisation and a no-show of certain speakers, was a wonderful experience. Fellow artists networked with people from around the nation and the world and mist tree had a ball!So much information about the industry and strategies for the way forward in various areas were given freely and encouragingly, while the new independant lables' association, AIRCO, was officially begun. All in all MOSHITO's organisors did a great job and we're looking forward to next year, where hopefully artists from all genres will appear to share their experiences, their music and their knowledge.

DVD Launch
Woooooo-hooooooo! The video launch party was a tremendous success. The music video (which will be available mid-June on the internet, so you will soon be able to judge for yourself) was beyond most people's expectations - "wonderful", "stunning", "awesome", "magnificent" were some of the comments from fans and media. They said they same things about the concert, in which mist tree sang solo, then with Jonathan Shaw and after that with Sello Masenya (both of whom also blew everyone away with their talent and harmonies). The crowd was a truly South African mix who loved the venue, went back for seconds and thirds of the lip-smacking food (Sponsored by Spar Melville and Spiced Jazz and set out by the skilled Spiced Jazz chef) and stayed talking 'til late. The sponsors went to town with prizes and nearly twenty people went home with prizes like hair treatments, cut blow and colour (Bijan) a facial and a hot stone massage (The Gym) books from the new medical range (Intersoft), seven exclusive boxes of baked goods from Shaun Woolf and many 'goodie packets' for media and crew - worth over R500 each - from Bijan. The venue was jam-packed with fans, crew and media. Rosemary Royeppen from 1485am Radio Today made a passionate and heart-warming mc. Thank you to everyone for making it the fabulous evening it was!

Let Them Eat Avos! A Social Responsibility Initiative
Those of you who attended the mist tree concert at Virgo's already know that mist tree feels strongly about supporting animals (since the proceeds went to the SPCA). You might have guessed that she's really into trees as well (mist tree's name is a dead give away). But what you couldn't possibly have known is mist tree's passion for avocados. Her latest social responsibility programme is to grow avocado trees from seeds and, when they're old enough, to give each tree to a school. In season, the avos could help feed the kids. In and out of season, the tree will provide shade and beauty. mist tree plans to grow an avo tree for every school in the Gauteng area - ambitious but, with your help, easily possible! To join in, all you have to do is write to info@misttree.co.za. We'll tell you how to get started and take your pledge for avo trees! This is a long term project (avo trees can take a year or two to grow as tall as you are) so the sooner we all pull together, the faster the schools will get their trees!

The two announced this week that the new album has gone into production. They are both very excited and told the mist tree fan club yesterday that "...the key theme of the first album was observation, being on the outside looking in. The second album takes the opposite stance, by exploring the emotions of being in the inside, reaching out.

Music Video
It's time... to tell you about the making of the music video! A group of young, talented and passionate people gathered round to volunteer to make a music video. Sponsors and well wishers saved the project (see the sponsors section to find out why...). Despite many traumas that threatened to derail the project, right up until the last few minutes of filming, it was so much fun and the crew were all so fabulous that if possible, mist tree would like the same set of people to work on the next video!

Nine sponsors and thirteen crew members are enough to pull off a music video, right? Wrong. No less than fourteen other people, few of whom put a foot on location, were crucial to the making of. Each of them did something no one else could do; it gives all of us cold shivers to remember that had one of them not pulled through, neither've would the music video.
Tabisa Masudubele from the Gauteng Film Office and Superintendent Bussy Wilson and his superior, Andries Matase, rescued the video from certain death by making available location filming permits, hours before filming. They are all passionate about independent projects and Superintendent Wilson even came through to one of the locations to make sure every thing was on track.
At least six people, working against time in clockwork precision, help solved the last minute transport calamities (Rui, Simon, Kyle, Ronald, Brett and Gordon.) Without Susan, critical errands and phone calls would have been neglected. Sara also provided last minute help while Luisa and Debbie provided logistical solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems.
Beryl from the Magaliesburg Express helped with train timetables and we are happy to say that no one died on location, as would happen when a train rides over inattentive people filming on a railway track.
Nastasja Faught and Colleen were the nail technicians who looked after the artists, not only with soothing hands but with smoothies and aromatherapy to help ease the stress!
We are now in the editing stages. Alessandro Tessa is hard at work and we'll let you know when the music video will be aired!
